Wolfgang Buttress creates sculptures which seek to define and celebrate a sense of place. Stepping out of the cacophony of the modern world, his artworks seek to establish a connection to something timeless and elemental. Our evolving relationship with 'nature’ and how this is expressed is a fundamental component of his practice. He collaborates with experts to explore and interpret scientific discoveries. It is fundamental to his practice that artworks engage with their context and landscape.

Wolfgang’s most acclaimed work to date is the multi-award-wining The Hive, a fourteen-meter aluminum lattice cuboid that highlights the decline of the world’s bee populations, which integrates and harmonises art, science, sound and landscape as an immersive and multi-sensory experience. The sculpture is installed at Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, London and the soundscape ONE by BE is an essential element of the experience. The soundscape is triggered by the live vibrations from inside a beehive in Kew Gardens; the sounds continually change allowing the audience to be aware of our increasingly fragile relationship with the wonder of the bee.
