News has reached us that The Nature Library — a travelling collection of books on land and the environment, selected by artist Christina Riley — is to visit Birnam Arts in Perthshire and Arran’s COAST Discovery Centre in the coming weeks.

Founded in 2019, the reference library aims to ‘connect readers to land, sky and sea’. Until 28 August, it forms part of ‘nATURE’, a collective of sculptural installations and talks at Birnam Arts which features the work of Simone Kenyon, Katherine Fay Allen, Alicia Escott and Heidi Quante. In Birnam, the main collection of the library is inspired by the works of these exhibiting artists. Visitors are invited to read the books — which focus in particular on terrestrial and woodland ecosystems and the way humans connect with these spaces — in the exhibition space which has been decorated in Spanish moss and clematis vines by Wild Flower Workshop.

From 30 – 31 July, The Nature Library will also be at COAST Discovery Centre in Lamlash, Arran. Opened in 2018, the centre is Scotland’s first Marine Protected Visitor Centre, led by the local community to engage more locals and visitors in coastal and marine activities and learning.
