As Artist-in-Residence for Kings Place’s Nature Unwrapped events programme, field recording supremo and friend of the site Chris Watson had been due to present a multi-channel soundscape of the Farne Islands. Though travel to the islands, situated off the coast of Northumberland, was inhibited by the outbreak of COVID-19, Chris has used recordings from his extensive archive to create an online, imagined ‘vertical’ soundscape —from sea level to the clifftops — of the bird-populous Staple Island.
