From July 5 – 7 2019, Timber Festival – which celebrates our relationship with the natural environment through carefully curated musical performances, installations, debates and workshops – returns.

Timber is a site-specific festival located in response to the National Forest landscape at Feanedock, a 70acre woodland site in the midlands. The woodland has been transformed from a former coalfield to be part of the first forest to be created at scale in England for over 1,000 years.

Guest speakers include writer and broadcaster Stuart Maconie and sound artist, DJ, radio presenter and singer Gwenno Saunders, and live music will include sets from Jesca Hoop and You Tell Me (Peter Brewis of Field Music, accompanied by Sarah Hayes). Additionally, BBC Radio 4’s Geoff Bird will be hosting Wilderness Tracks, where guests choose six pieces of music that soundtrack their relationship with nature, with Laura Barton among his guests – and BBC presenter and broadcaster Elizabeth Alker – one of Timber’s guest curators – will be taking over the Eyrie stage on Saturday, programming a mixture of live music, spoken word and a DJ set. Timber will also play host to a wide variety of arts and theatre installations over the weekend, such as Dan Fox’s work Shimmer and Wild Rumpus’s Seams, a multi-sensory journey inspired by the evocative names and diagrams of the coal seams that surround Feanedock.
