Every so often, something really special comes our way out of the blue. Natives Journal is one such example.

Founded by Nicolas Burrows (of the Nous Vous collective), Natives Journal 1 is the result of the first Natives residency, which took place at Low Parkamoor, a converted stone barn overlooking Coniston Water in the Lake District. As Nicolas explains on the Natives site, ‘artists or makers – from whatever discipline – are ‘native’ to the cultural landscape, simultaneously shaping and adapting to it. The aim of this project is to gather together practitioners who share a sensitivity towards landscape, wilderness and walking, opening up collaborative possibilities, allowing for a closer connection with the landscape and exploring alternative ways of living and making.’

The journal comprises drawings, photographs, poetry, and even an eight-minute audio soundtrack, accessible via a QR code. Natives Journal 1 is available to buy here. Natives Journal 2, resulting from a recent residency in Yorkshire, is on its way and will be published in September.
