4: The Great, the Good and the Bramble Wood – West Norwood Cemetery
There are still areas of the cemetery that are lush and wild, with nature slowly reclaiming the tombs. Wild blackberries from cemeteries always taste particularly delicious – sinful. The cemetery itself holds a small remnant of the Great North Wood which once covered the area, in the form of a row of Boundary Oaks at the crest of the hill. A tributary of the buried river Effra rises in the far corner by the Greek Orthodox section, and runs under the grounds in drains.
