2: Angel In Love With Her Oak Wings – Camberwell Old Cemetery
Botanically minded readers will note that it is actually a sycamore, which has grown out of the bottom of the memorial and merged with the statue to form a pleasing nature-angel. When one spends a lot of time in cemeteries, one often notices the same angel poses again and again, albeit with different faces. The statues themselves were made to a pattern, sometimes with the faces left blank, so that a local funerary artist could provide a likeness of the dear departed.
