A young woman in Great Yarmouth, taken during the herring harvest of 1932
Thanks to Cally Callomon for alerting us to this.
Celebrate the herring on October 31st & November 1st 2015 at The Cut.
To date Suffolk’s Herring Festival has been a biennial event at Middleton Farm Shop, but this year for the first time it’s being hosted at the Halesworth Cut with centre manager, Aafke Groeneveld at the helm. “It’s going to include talks, music, a lot of food and storytelling about the traditional herring trade in Suffolk,” she said. There will also be a performance of Smokey’s Herren, a play by Jack Rosenthal. “We’re going to have a big barbecue and hopefully we’ll be cooking fish as a local boat is going out to sea for us. But as I’m Dutch, we’re also going to have some pickled herring from the other side of the North Sea, for people to try.”
