One of our favourite artists, Kurt Jackson, has conceived a new project, PLACE, featuring essays from some of our favourite writers waxing lyrical about their favourite Place in Britain. Contributors and their places include Robert Macfarlane (Caingorm), Helen Dunmore (Paddington station), Michael Eavis (Worthy Farm, Glastonbury Festival site) and Patrick Gale (A30,West Cornwall) and our very own Jeff Barrett (Attenborough Nature Reserve).

The touring exhibition opens in Southampton on November 14th and the dates are as follows;

Southampton City Art Gallery – 14/11/14 – 7/3/15
Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro – 28/3/15 – 2/10/15
Victoria Art Gallery, Bath – 10/10/15 – 3/1/16

Jeff was honoured to contribute an essay on his childhood place of refuge in Nottinghamshire. “…those vast deep pits, dug from the gravel that went to build the A52, were simply The Gravs. Today there are no anglers. The factories are gone, the social club membership cards lay blank, the lakes are silted up. Now my Mum’s name can be added to the list of those that haunt the landscape, another ghost of Beeston’s past. That’s the main reason I go there now, to say hello and have a quiet moment,” he says.
