Dipper (Cinclus cinclus) Words and picture by Matt Sewell.
A fat Wren? A wrong Robin? A suicidal Sparrow? A mixture of all? It’s easy to get confused by a Dipper as he is an anomaly amongst our songbirds, preferring to spend most of his time running around feeding underwater. He bobs about from stone to boulder, quick as a ball stolen by the current, all the time reciting his immaculate, crystal-clear song that he learnt note by note from the river.
